Nourishing Beginnings Logo Design
Nourishing Beginnings is a learning module system developed by the Dairy Farmers of Canada to train early childhood educators. It teaches educators about proper early childhood nutrition, and tactics for effective group meals in a childcare setting.

The Brief
I worked with a small team at Harbinger to develop a logo that would express the concepts of nutrition and mentorship. The client wanted to highlight the relationship between adults and children, with a focus on food and cooking. They provided some sample imagery including bowls, spoons and adults and children cooking together. They were also open to imagery involving the food groups.
Finally, because it was part of a larger brand, the logo needed to look like it was part of the same family as the Dairy Farmers of Canada logo.
The Process

I did many sketches exploring the various concepts the client had mentioned, as well as introducing a few of my own related ideas that I thought would express the concepts well.
I also explored typographic options using fonts that were similar to the existing fonts in use by the brand.
Initial Concepts

These explorations lead to a number of rough logo concepts that were considered by the client.
Refinements

Further refinements incorporating colour helped to narrow down which concept best expressed the clients concepts.
The Final Product

In the end the logo depicting three spoons was picked. I felt the spoons worked so well because they immediately brought to mind cooking and eating, while at the same time representing people in an abstract way. The combination of a big spoon and two little spoons expressed the concept of mentorship, and the dynamic pose of the spoons expressed movement and fun.
